OfflineGood afternoon
I have tried to add the free Dynamic eBay Store Categories widget to my eBay store but it doesn’t work. I copied one of your CSS style sheets and the code from the form (sample below) to the Promotion Box setup page of my store but the categories are not showing.
I would be grateful for any help or advice you could provide.
Kind Regards
Frank Stephen
Code copied to eBay:
<!–
var az = “SC”;var bz = “RI”;var cz = “PT”;var dz = “SR”;var ez = “C=”;var fz = “htt”;var gz = “p://”;var hz = “.co.uk”;
var fz0 = “apps.lastdropofink”+hz+”/eBayShopCats/eBayCats.php?siteid=3&ebayid=cinemasnacks”;
document.write (“”);
document.write(“”);

Howdy Frank,
Try the tool again here Create Dynamic eBay Categories
I’ve changed the loader and it will work now.
Apologies, I had left a few tags in that should have been there, to allow it to be continued to be used on eBay.com.

OfflineSeems to work well, I would seriously consider buying the standalone version if we can control the number of menu sub item are display.
i.e. have the behaviour that only top/parent menu items are showing at first, then if you click on a top menu the sub menus open up below it.
It would be perfect then :)

Howdy gingebot,
Ah that’s called “accordion”, see here for some examples:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ul+accordion+menu
I’ve just had a play and got so far, but I can’t make the menu drop as it should do, but that’s just because of my poor jQuery skills ;-)
It’s perfectly possible, as it’s something I’d like to have available. I can get one of my css/js chaps to look at it for you?

OfflineHey Matt,
Accordion menu, that’s the one! – It’s essential for stores with a large amount of categories IMHO.
The store you link to in your example ‘my first wish’ do quite a good job of the accordion menu in their main store template, but if you click through into a listing there’s a lot of broken links.
BTW here’s my modification on your css ~ has rounded corners and the buttons for categories are floated apart slightly, anyone please feel free to use/hack;

OfflineHi Matt,
I was very pleased to find this widget and be able to customise my shop easily,
but I discovered that if you use a shop name other than your ebay user id – shop links will not work
can you possibly add 1 more field to your widget for shop name – and use shop name to build links?
thank you in advance
Elen

OfflineHi Matt!
thanks for quick reply!
for free version on this page – http://lastdropofink.co.uk/mar…..-listings/
do you recon this can be done easily?
thanks!
5:29 PM
Hi Elen,
I’ve just tried with the eBay ID “offtek.memory” whose shop is called “offtekmemoryupgrade” and it works ok.
I’ve dumped the cache files for all the categories, would you like to enter your eBay ID back in the page and try it again?
If it’s not right, let me know your eBay ID and I’ll check it myself :)

Offlineoh! thank you very much!
here is what i have:
this works:
Shop name: snappermusicplc
Shop URL: http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/…..ermusicplc
categories links as:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/snapp…..6638160018
now i change to Snapper Music Shop:
Shop name: Snapper Music Shop
Shop URL: http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/…..Music-Shop
categories links still as:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/snapp…..6638160018 – doesn’t work
while it should be
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Snapp…..6638160018

Hi Elen,
That is a purely a cache issue with eBay, if you change the store name it’s not reflected straight away.
If you leave the store name as it is “Snapper-Music-Shop” and give it 24 hours, it’ll update appropriately.
I’m guessing it’s because eBay don’t expect a user to change their store names frequently, hence the lag for updating it.

Offlineoh you think?
yes I’m aware about caching issues issues with ebay but didn’t think it would affect this.
I thought that because you are using user id to retrieve and then build links and use id is different from shop name – that was causing the problem
but thank you for looking into this!
I’ll give it a day and see what happens =))
thanks for your help and great widget!

Howdy Elen,
Yep it’s just eBay being slow on updating the data for the calls being made.
It’s a known issues when a user updates their eBay shop (reminded of a call we had with eBay launching tesco_outlet and they swore blind it was the software, funnily enough it corrected itself the next day and was found to be a cache issue and it was confirmed to be the case, so it’s been like that for a few years and tbh, normally not an issue)
Check it tomorrow and let me know :)
